Generations of Assimilation

In 2024 I was honoured to be selected as a recipient of an arts grant from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society. This grant was to fund my art installation "Generations of Assimilation", a project I had been toying with in my head for a couple of years prior.

During and after WWII my Grandfather was one of the thousands of Japanese Canadians sent to an Internment Camp simply for being of Japanese desent. After his release he ended up settling in the town next to the internment camp. I was born and raised in that same small town he settled in.

This art project is a look into my own childhood and life growing up in the BC Interior and what I feel like the generational trauma associated with the camps cost myself and other Japanese Canadians afterward.
