Big Beautiful Bowl of Flowers

This bowl was one of the largest I've thrown on my wheel. The bowl itself just barely fit into my kiln when it came time to fire it. Measuring approximately 14 inches in diameter.

After being thrown on the wheel I spent a number of hours carving various sized cherry blossom inspired flowers into the outside of the bowl. Then, using underglazed, I painted each one in different shades of white, pink and yellow.

After being bisque fired I glaze the inside in a white satin glaze and very carefully placed the glaze on the outside between each of the flowers. The white satin glaze really allowed the speckles in the clay body pop after it's second firing.
